What is Achilles Tendinopathy? The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body. It connects the calf muscles to the heel bone and is used when we walk, run, and jump. During contraction of the calf, tension is placed through the Achilles tendon. When stresses on the tendon are excessive due to too much repetition or high force, the tendon can become inflamed and damaged (micro-tears), known as Achilles tendinopathy.
